Board and committee meetings typically take place in York Region and/or Simcoe County.
As a member of our Board of Directors you can expect to volunteer approximately 8-10 hours a month, share your leadership, expertise and governance experience at the board level and sit on one of our committees (Audit and Finance or Governance or Quality). As a community member on one of our committees you can expect to volunteer approximately 4 hours a month and share your expertise and build your governance experience. Board and committee meetings typically take place in York Region and/or Simcoe County.  
 
It is important that CTN’s board and board committees reflect the diversity of communities we serve. Lived experience as a person with a disability or family member of someone with disability or developmental needs is highly valued in this role. We are also looking for individuals with professional experience in any of the following areas: Health/Social Services, Finance and Change Management skills. The Simcoe Muskoka Multiple Sclerosis Society is looking for volunteers to assist with the annual Mandarin MS Walk that is held in Midland, Barrie, Orillia, New Tecumseth (Alliston) & Collingwood each year the first Sunday in May.

This event requires volunteers for one day only, to set up and then take down tables, distribute refreshments,food prep and serving, man pit stops and register walkers.

As a driver for the Wheels of Hope transportation program you will improve access for the one in five adults and families in Ontario who need transportation assistance to get to their treatments and appointments. Drivers are needed to travel long distance to Toronto. 
 
What is Involved? Working in partnership with your transportation convenor, you will commit to a regular weekly driving day, confirming transportation arrangements as directed. You will provide transportation for one or more clients to medical centres located in various cities in your area. 
 
Communicate with clients and transportation via email and phone. Provide safe reliable transportation in a 100% smoke free vehicle. Become familiar with programs and services provided by the society and share those resources as needed. 
 
Time Commitment: (Ongoing) This is an ongoing position throughout the year. The expectation is that you will commit to a minimum of one regularly scheduled shift during the week. Specific shifts, availability and driving locations will be discussed at the interview stage. 
 
What you bring to this position: You are excited and motivated to provide people experiencing a cancer diagnosis with this practical and neccessary service. Your willingness to engage with people from diverse backgrounds in a sensitive and thoughful manner will be an encouragement to those in need of transportation assistance. You are able to complete your shift in a completely non smoking environment and you recognize the need to maintain confidentiality when communicating with people.

Peers Fostering Hope seeks volunteers who are stroke survivors or caregivers of stroke survivors, connecting them with new stroke survivors or caregivers in a hospital setting. The peer visitor draws on personal experience with stroke recovery to elicit a positive response in stroke patients. The peer visitor helps patients become more hopeful about their new situation by facilitating informative and emotionally supportive conversations. The peer visitor also acts as positive role model for stroke recovery and resuming life after stroke.

FoodFit is a 12-week program that combines fun, hands-on cooking sessions and food-based activities with take-home recipes, easy-to-understand nutrition information, group exercise, shared meals, self-directed individual and group goal-setting, and reflection and feedback loops that monitor and reinforce individual and group progress. 
 
The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a busy kitchen, have some previous exposure to food skills programming and food safety, and have excellent motivational skills. They should be able to commit to the 12 weeks of the program working with the same FoodFit team each week. The volunteer should respect people’s privacy and lived experience and hold no prejudices towards people of different socio-economic backgrounds or cultures from their own. 
 
Duties include: 
• Assisting the facilitator in setting up the kitchen and program space each week  
• Assist the facilitator in preparing a healthy snack for the FoodFit team each week 
• Working with participants in the kitchen: providing assistance reading recipes/converting measurements, supervising food safety and hygiene, supervising knife handling and kitchen safety practices, encouraging all participants to get involved in cooking/preparing food, create a model “healthy plate” for each week’s meals, etc.  
• Assisting the facilitator and participants in kitchen clean up and encouraging all participants to “share the load”  
• Participate in a 30 minute walk and encourage all participants to “get moving” each week 
• Follow all instructions from the FoodFit facilitator and be ready to “pitch in” 
• Motivate participants to achieve success in the program and lead by example 
• May be asked to assist participants in completing pre- and end-program questionnaires (e.g. interviewing participants and recording their answers for them if they have writing/language barriers) or assisting with program participant intakes (measuring waist/height, flexibility tests, blood pressure, pulse/heart rate)
