The Next Steps Walking Program is seeking Walking Partners! Next Steps serves individuals who have suffered from a stroke & their caregivers by providing them with a safe setting to interact with their peers and engage in physical activity. Next Steps seeks to improve participants’ quality of life. 
 
The Walking Partner is responsible for providing program support to staff and participants. The Walking Partner will assist the coordinator as needed (i.e. set-up and clean-up) in order to ensure the effective delivery of the program. This volunteer will also provide companionship and support to participants by developing positive and encouraging relationships with them, ultimately helping participants to maximize their experience in the program.

FoodFit is a 12-week program that combines fun, hands-on cooking sessions and food-based activities with take-home recipes, easy-to-understand nutrition information, group exercise, shared meals, self-directed individual and group goal-setting, and reflection and feedback loops that monitor and reinforce individual and group progress. 
 
The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a busy kitchen, have some previous exposure to food skills programming and food safety, and have excellent motivational skills. They should be able to commit to the 12 weeks of the program working with the same FoodFit team each week. The volunteer should respect people’s privacy and lived experience and hold no prejudices towards people of different socio-economic backgrounds or cultures from their own. 
 
Duties include: 
• Assisting the facilitator in setting up the kitchen and program space each week  
• Assist the facilitator in preparing a healthy snack for the FoodFit team each week 
• Working with participants in the kitchen: providing assistance reading recipes/converting measurements, supervising food safety and hygiene, supervising knife handling and kitchen safety practices, encouraging all participants to get involved in cooking/preparing food, create a model “healthy plate” for each week’s meals, etc.  
• Assisting the facilitator and participants in kitchen clean up and encouraging all participants to “share the load”  
• Participate in a 30 minute walk and encourage all participants to “get moving” each week 
• Follow all instructions from the FoodFit facilitator and be ready to “pitch in” 
• Motivate participants to achieve success in the program and lead by example 
• May be asked to assist participants in completing pre- and end-program questionnaires (e.g. interviewing participants and recording their answers for them if they have writing/language barriers) or assisting with program participant intakes (measuring waist/height, flexibility tests, blood pressure, pulse/heart rate)

The Barrie Office of Heart and Stroke Foundation is seeking volunteers to support local schools participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Responsibility may include visiting local schools, building relationships with school personnel, helping with kick off presentations, attending event days and assisting with administrative tasks. We are hiring for numerous event volunteers and welcome individuals, teams, families, church congregations and more! You might be helping to register participants, preparing and serving lunch, or setting up tables and chairs. If you have accessibility concerns we can also accommodate these as well! The Walk is May 3, but we need volunteers for May 2 and May 3.

Summer Camp - Volunteers are frequently our former campers but volunteering is open to virtually anyone. Being a volunteer is often the first step towards becoming a staff member at the Royal Soccer Club. Volunteers are treated like staff and expected to help with soccer drills, camp games, managing participants, and maintaining a good work ethic by assisting staff on-site and providing a fun and safe learning atmosphere for campers. Volunteers should be energetic, enthusiastic, responsible and team players.

WALK DAY VOLUNTEER – PARKINSON SUPERWALK-BARRIE 
 
About Parkinson Canada:  
Parkinson Canada is the national voice of Canadians living with Parkinson’s disease. From diagnosis to discovery, we guide the way for Canadians to live well with Parkinson’s disease through education, advocacy and support services. Our National Research Program funds innovative research to search for better treatments and a cure. A national registered charity, Parkinson Canada fulfils its mission through the generosity of donors and is an accredited organization under the Imagine Canada Standards Program. 
 
What We Need: 
Have you, your family, or friends been touched by Parkinson’s disease? Are you interested in meeting new people, working as a team and spreading the awareness of Parkinson’s disease? Then we’re looking for you! Parkinson Canada is looking for Day-of Volunteers to assist with the execution of Parkinson SuperWalk, Barrie.  
 
Responsibilities:  
• Attend and/or review registration and banking training session (if applicable). 
• Work with volunteers to coordinate services needed for the day-of (which may include: registration, food and drink, guest speakers, t-shirt distribution, route marshals, etc.).  
• Be onsite on the day of the event to facilitate a successful event. Must be available for Parkinson SuperWalk Barrie on Sat, Sep 7, 2019 at Heritage Park.  
 
Qualifications: 
• Possess exceptional leadership capabilities and enjoy working as part of a team. 
• Excellent organizational skills. 
• Excellent interpersonal skills. 
• Be available for the time commitment needed to ensure the success of the event. 
• Mature, responsible and dependable. 
• Ability to meet deadlines.  
• Must have a volunteer police check. 
 
Our SuperWalk volunteer positions are available to all ages and include flexible time commitments, mentorship for new members, education and training, and excellent leadership experience.
