Duties will depend on each agencies’ current projects and priorities but may include the following: 
1. In a friendly manner, greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate agency. Answer questions regarding all four agencies. Call appropriate agency to announce visitors. 
2. Direct couriers with packages to the appropriate agency. When appropriate, receive and sign packages from couriers and bring packages back to the appropriate staff. 
3. Sort incoming mail according to each agency and deliver to each agency. Assist with outgoing mail: ensure mail is picked up when postman delivers mail. 
4. Maintain the levels of brochures in reception area displays. Restock from reception storage. Notify appropriate agency when more stock is needed. Maintain bulletin boards in reception area. 
5. Maintain the general tidiness of the waiting area, including the children’s area. Wipe children’s toys on a regular basis. 
6. Inform appropriate staff when front desk supplies are low so supplies can be replenished. 
7. Review communications log each day. Make entries to the communications log, as needed. 
8. Inform visitors of ShopCNIB store days and hours (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) if they inquire about the CNIB store. 
9. Keep an eye out for disoriented visitors outside. People are often confused by what door to come in and may need guidance. Assist them when possible. 
10. Respond to questions regarding room bookings. 
11. Assist staff with set up of shared meeting spaces as required. 
12. Assist staff with opening and closing of the building.

Furry Friends Animal Shelter

Furry Friends Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to providing shelter and love to abandoned, lost or rescued cats and kittens in the Barrie Community. We provide care to almost 1,000 animals and do not euthanize healthy animals for any reason. We are a registered charity funded by generous donors and supporters and operated completely by volunteers. 
 
We are looking for dependable adult animal-lovers (over 18 years of age...younger volunteers must be with a fellow volunteer who is 18+ for the entire shift) to help us match cats and kittens with people who can give them a permanent, loving home. Two weeks per month we adopt cats and kittens out of the PetSmart Adoption Centre (33 Mapleview Drive East, Barrie). 
 
There are three main tasks:  
1. Keep the kitties clean and comfortable - top up food and water, clean cages (litter boxes too!) and pet and play with them! 
2. Interact with the public and potential adopters in a retail environment, giving great customer service.  
3. Assess suitable adopters, complete adoption paperwork and process payments.

The program focuses on core themes including; body image, self-esteem, healthy eating/activity and building healthy relationship. Volunteers are responsible for a group of 4-8 kids. Its once a week for 90 minutes and its a 7-week program. They run during the school day 9-3pm, Monday-Friday from September- June. Volunteer can run multiple groups during the school year. FoodFit is a 12-week program that combines fun, hands-on cooking sessions and food-based activities with take-home recipes, easy-to-understand nutrition information, group exercise, shared meals, self-directed individual and group goal-setting, and reflection and feedback loops that monitor and reinforce individual and group progress. 
 
The ideal volunteer should be comfortable working in a busy kitchen, have some previous exposure to food skills programming and food safety, and have excellent motivational skills. They should be able to commit to the 12 weeks of the program working with the same FoodFit team each week. The volunteer should respect people’s privacy and lived experience and hold no prejudices towards people of different socio-economic backgrounds or cultures from their own. 
 
Duties include: 
• Assisting the facilitator in setting up the kitchen and program space each week  
• Assist the facilitator in preparing a healthy snack for the FoodFit team each week 
• Working with participants in the kitchen: providing assistance reading recipes/converting measurements, supervising food safety and hygiene, supervising knife handling and kitchen safety practices, encouraging all participants to get involved in cooking/preparing food, create a model “healthy plate” for each week’s meals, etc.  
• Assisting the facilitator and participants in kitchen clean up and encouraging all participants to “share the load”  
• Participate in a 30 minute walk and encourage all participants to “get moving” each week 
• Follow all instructions from the FoodFit facilitator and be ready to “pitch in” 
• Motivate participants to achieve success in the program and lead by example 
• May be asked to assist participants in completing pre- and end-program questionnaires (e.g. interviewing participants and recording their answers for them if they have writing/language barriers) or assisting with program participant intakes (measuring waist/height, flexibility tests, blood pressure, pulse/heart rate)

Boys Club for boys 9-12 years of age - The group meets Tuesday's at 6:30 at Connaught Public School. It includes a wide variety of recreational activities. Call for locations and times. 
 
Cops, Kids and Communities - Officers, Auxiliary Officers and Administrative Staff from Collingwood and the Huronia West OPP detachments have joined forces with BBBS to allow children to spend time doing fun, healthy activities such as bowling, swimming and touring the OPP and fire stations while promoting the basic principles of respect, understanding, healthy eating and an active lifestyle. 
 
Homework Club - Currently operates on Tuesday and Thursday after school in Collingwood. Children in the BBBS program are matched to high school helpers who work one to one under the BBBS staff supervision. Healthy snacks are provided. Call for locations and times. 
 
Summer Camp Programs - Clients who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience camp life or to travel outside their region are given priority but program is accessible to any client. 
 
Behind the scenes - There are many committee and project roles for volunteers who have different schedules and different assets to bring to the table. Some shorter term projects include arranging our yearly raffle (donations, tickets), working on furthering our endowment fund project, working on furthering our capital project for a larger and owned office space, Bowl for Kids Support to work on planning items for our big bowling event, creation of our signature lifesaver matchbooks. This is a wonderful hands-on opportunity to learn about our native wild animals. Procyon Wildlife Rehab counts on volunteer animal caregivers to carry out the essential duties that allow orphaned and injured animals to return to the wild. If you are able to commit 4 or 5 hours once a week, you will find this very rewarding! The duties of this ongoing volunteer position involve preparing food for, and feeding animals of all ages, cleaning cages, observing animal behaviour and condition, and record keeping. The position also involves housekeeping such as laundry, washing dishes, cleaning counters, floors, and equipment, and light yard work. The requirements for this position are: minimum 18 years of age; access to email, ability to travel to Procyon’s rehab centre near Beeton, Ontario, and ability to work your designated shift every week, holidays included. Time commitment: 5 hours per week, every week from April to October.

Gearing up for a busy season, we are currently seeking eager volunteers who will join our Piping Plover Guardian Family for the bird’s critical breeding season (June & July).  
 
Responsibilities include: 
• Monitoring the birds while they are nesting and recording important behaviours 
• Monitoring newly hatch Piping Plover chicks and recording important behaviours 
• Sharing updates with the public  
• Showing the public the Piping Plovers through spotting scopes 
• Providing feedback and updates to the Piping Plover Coordinator 
 
You don’t have to be an avid birder to volunteer as training is provided! Training is tentatively scheduled for the end of May.

The incumbent of this position will be assigned to deliver a specific service on site during a response, however, must know how to deliver all services at the ERT level. During non-response times, the ERT Responder may resume duties as a PDA Responder.

Job Summary:  
The Personal Disaster Assistance (PDA) Team is activated to respond and provide assistance for up to the first 72 hours following a disaster. The incumbent of this position is responsible for conducting a needs assessment to determine the needs of the clients. The PDA Responder will provide, as appropriate to agreements with the local authorities, Emergency Social Services (ESS) for relief, referral services and direct assistance for recovery, as well as, works with the PDA Supervisor to plan and organize ongoing preparedness activities. They may be asked to deliver services during a large-scale emergency response in their community.  
 
Working Conditions:  
• Potential for responding in disaster areas, as well as difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, smoke, humidity, vulnerable clients). These environments have the potential to affect the overall wellbeing of the responders on site.  
• The incumbent may need to stand for several hours.  
• The incumbent may need to lift up to 20 kg of relief supplies during preparedness activities and during response.  
• Ability to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e. late night or weekends) and long hours of work in a demanding context.  
• Ability to be on-call when scheduled, as required.
