Duties

Tutors will meet with their own student, 1 on 1, twice per week, to assist with reading, writing, numeracy, computers, and essential skills.

Benefits Helping the community by improving literacy skills of students.
Clients Adults who have not completed grade 12. Also those who need extra help in a specific area or skill set.
Ages 19 year(s) and up

Patience is essential as well as tolerance and understanding.
Commitment Length Long Term (More than 1 year) - One year commitment ; We would prefer a commitment of at least 1 year as it is necessary to build a relationship with the student.
Interaction Level One-on-one ; Small Group ; Interaction is mostly confined to their individual student unless the volunteer is interested in teaching a small group

We are often in need of tutors. The number needed changes with the number of learners.
Training Orientation ; Training is provided ; Scheduled training ; Tutor training workshops are offered at least once per year in Orillia. They are offered continuously in Barrie.
Transportation Near public transit ; All volunteers must provide their own transportation to the council office. Transportation will be provided for special events
Police Check Required
Additional Requirements Tutors are occasionally called upon to assist with fundraising and/or recreational activities.
